FACTS ABOUT WHBW
(July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010)

  • Women Helping Battered Women served 4,401 individuals (1,818 adults and 2,583 children).
  • We provided emergency shelter to 186 adults and 102 children for a total of 7,420 bednights.
  • The Economic Justice program provided 812 hours of economic advocacy and holistic support to women in the community.  We provided transitional housing services to 16 adults and 18 children for a total of 9,630 bednights.
  • Our support group provided emotional support and education to 49 women.
  • An average of 26 new survivors called the hotline each month, accessing our emergency services and receiving support for the first time.
  • 246 adults were assisted with filing for relief from abuse orders.  These adults had 207 children known to the agency that also benefited from the assistance given to their parents.
  • The Legal Advocacy Program provided over 1,167 hours of advocacy for individuals seeking support with divorce, custody/parentage, immigration, criminal justice, and filing for relief from abuse orders.
  • 283 children received services at WHBW in the form of playgroups, individual support, and advocacy. The children’s program provided over 8401 hours of service to parents and children.
  • The hotline fielded 2,888 calls, assisting individuals in crisis and offering access to emergency services along with support and referrals.
  • Over 3001 individuals were reached through more than 36 outreach workshops.
  • 97% of the people we served live in Chittenden County.
  • Volunteers provided over 4971 hours of service, the equivalent of nearly 2.4 full-time positions. At $15.00/hour and up—without benefits—this contribution would be valued at approximately $74,900.   This figure is equivalent to 8% of our 2010 budget.
  • 18 full-time paid staff equivalents worked at WHBW.
  • Our budget for FY 2011 is $1,118,637.
