Save the Dates: Local Groups Host “Steakout” to End Domestic Violence
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and local anti-violence organizers are asking the community to do more than talk the talk, they want everyone to walk the walk. For four weeks in October there will be a walk with local police departments that will focus on raising awareness about domestic violence and letting people know how they can actively help end domestic violence in our communities. Each walk will feature a local law enforcement speaker, a display illustrating the effects of domestic violence on our community, and opportunities for the community to get involved in the effort to end domestic violence in Vermont.
Our launch event will be held at Burlington Police Department on October 1 from 4:30-6:30pm. The event will include our “Steakout” BBQ, walk, and celebration with food, live entertainment and children’s activities.
For the next three weeks, walks in Essex Junction, Colchester and Williston will feature a local law enforcement speaker, a display illustrating the effects of domestic violence on our community, and opportunities for the community to get involved in the effort to end domestic violence in Vermont.
On the fifth Wednesday, October 30, Domestic Violence Awareness Month will end with a Candle-lit Vigil and Survivor Speakout at Burlington City Hall at 5:30 p.m..
We welcome the community and media to attend these free events.
